Sell Your Trombone, Trumpet, or Brass Instrument

If you’re searching for where to sell your trumpet, trombone, or other brass instrument, The Brass Exchange offers several ways to help you move forward — whether you’re looking for a direct sale, consignment, or trade-in.

We work with players, families, and collectors across the U.S. to help determine value and guide you toward the best selling option based on your instrument and timeline.

Many visitors contact us while researching an instrument they already own or are considering selling — often after viewing our Archive of Sold Instruments. 🔎 Our goal is to help you choose the option that best fits your instrument, timeline, and goals.

How We Help Determine Value

Many sellers contact us asking what their instrument is worth before deciding how to sell it. Value depends on several factors, including model, condition, originality, and current market demand.

Our experience with thousands of instruments—including many archived examples on this site—allows us to provide realistic guidance based on actual sales and current buyer interest.

Sell Directly to The Brass Exchange

We can take the hassle out of selling an instrument on your own by purchasing it directly from you. If your instrument is a good fit for our inventory, we may make an offer to buy it outright. We can also assist with packing and shipping, and in many cases provide a prepaid shipping label.

The best part is that you get paid quickly once everything is finalized.

To get started, please complete our Sell • Trade • Consign Form, or feel free to give us a call.

Note: Every request is reviewed individually. While we can’t make an offer on every instrument, we’re always happy to discuss your situation and offer guidance to help you make the best decision.

Sell on Consignment

Consignment can be a good option for higher-value instruments or collections. If your instrument is valued at approximately $2,500 or more, we’d be happy to consider it for consignment.

For sellers with multiple instruments, consignment may also be appropriate when the aggregate value of the collection meets this range — even if individual pieces vary in value. Each situation is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

For instruments or collections that fall below this range, a direct purchase may be a better fit. While consignment is not available for every submission, we’re always happy to review your details and help you determine the most practical path forward.

When consigning with The Brass Exchange, we handle the entire process, including:

  • Professional photography and listing on our website
  • Detailed descriptions highlighting your instrument’s features
  • Exposure to a growing, highly targeted customer base
  • In-person and online buyer inquiries

Our audience continues to grow, which increases visibility and the likelihood of a timely sale.

Consignment Fees & Services

We charge a 20% consignment fee based on the final sale price. Any additional expenses — such as shipping to us, repairs, or cleaning — are discussed and approved in advance.

If your instrument requires service before sale, we can help coordinate that as well.

Trade-Ins

We also accept trade-ins, which can be applied toward another instrument from our inventory. This can be a flexible and convenient option for players looking to upgrade or change direction.

Selling a Collection, Downsizing, or Managing an Estate?

If you have multiple instruments, are downsizing, or are helping manage an estate, we’re here to make the process simple and straightforward.

We regularly work with retired players, families, and collectors who need guidance on evaluating and selling one or more instruments. Whether you have a small group of horns or a larger collection, we can help you determine value and recommend the most practical path forward.

In many cases, the easiest way to get started is to give us a call. We’re happy to talk through your situation and help you decide on next steps.
