King 3BF 100th Anniversary Sterling Silver model 1893–1993. This model was produced in 1993 to commemorate King’s 100th year of trombone craftsmanship. It has the same specifications as other 3BF Sterling Silver models—8" sterling silver bell, .508 bore nickel silver handslide, yellow brass tuning slide, and yellow brass wrap on the standard rotor F-attachment. This is a pre-owned trombone in excellent condition, adult-owned and well cared for, with no dents, dings, or previous damage. It needs no service to improve playability. The handslide is excellent with superior alignment, smooth action, and no issues like plating loss or inner slide wear. There is minimal lacquer wear over the entire instrument from normal use, and a white taped neck wrap was previously applied and removed, leaving a bit of residue as pictured—we’ll clean that up further prior to delivery.
We’ve had easily over 100 3B Silversonics come through The Brass Exchange over the years, and this one stands out. It plays easily and responds with a gorgeous tone, producing enormous energy out front. Listeners and bandmates alike will love how it sounds. It’s a fantastic all-around horn for jazz or commercial-style playing, especially in a horn section where blending with saxophones and trumpets matters.
Why would I want an F-attachment trombone for playing in a jazz band? The trigger makes it easier to avoid long slide reaches in 6th and 7th positions and also gives you access to extended lower range notes—such as low E♭ down to low C—which aren’t playable on a straight tenor. It adds flexibility without sacrificing the signature 3B feel. Sax and trumpet players love having a trombone in the section with a big fat bottom end.
