Conn 88H Vintage Elkhart Era SN N21034, made in 1970. Classic large bore tenor trombone model that changed the orchestra world trombone sections. Prior to Conn introducing this model 88H in the 1950's, American Orchestras were playing mostly on smaller size trombones. Vincent Bach wasn't even producing the 42/42B yet, and did so in response to the demands of the U.S. Market, largely influenced by the 88H. Everyone wanted to play the 88H. This horn is in remarkable condition. Is all original parts and lacquer. Has not been played on for 30 years. We did full shop service here including chemical bath and once over. Excellent valve and slide, no defects. Handslide has superior alignment and has no plating wear on the inner stockings. Still has springs in first position. Has 8.5" Rose Brass Bell, unsoldered rim was standard on this model, which produces a wide sound with enormous tonal flexibility and color. It plays dark, but it will light up when you need it to. Handslide is .547 for large shank mouthpiece, works best with longer shank. The original mouthpiece is included and is Emory Remington taper. Schilke and Bach still offer this type of mouthpiece shank. Or, just use the one that comes with the horn. There is always something to be said about using the intended mouthpiece by the instrument maker. It sure worked great for Remington and countless pro players under his mentorship. Is all original parts and lacquer. There is not even any where on the grip/skin areas. It really is the nicest one we had had here in 15 years. The slide is like glass. Conn was very good at it back in the day. Original case still in very good condition. This 88H is both a player and a collectible, and is not likely to lose value over the years. A new 88H today sells in the $3500 range, and todays horns are really just replicas of this one. This is the real thing.
