Bach 50B Corporation Era Bass Trombone – Brasslab Custom Independent Conversion
This Bach 50B bass trombone, built in the 1970s during the Corporation Era, features a professionally installed independent rotor valve conversion by Chuck McAlexander of The Brasslab in New York City. McAlexander was one of the most respected brass technicians in the industry, known for his precision work and deep knowledge of custom trombone setups.
This particular instrument was owned and played by a professional musician and remains an exceptional player. The slide is in excellent condition—smooth, fast, and responsive. Included with the instrument is a sterling silver #13 leadpipe designed by Don Harwood, former bass trombonist of the New York Philharmonic. This setup enhances tonal stability and response across all registers, particularly in the upper and low ranges.
Although not shown in photos, a low B tuning slide is included, adding versatility for both orchestral and solo literature. The instrument has undergone full shop service, including chemical bath, valve alignment, and slide adjustment. It plays freely and evenly, with no additional work required for optimal performance.
Cosmetically, the horn shows typical signs of use for its age, but nothing that affects its playing qualities. It projects with the depth, clarity, and control that have made the Bach 50B a mainstay among professional bass trombonists.
The instrument comes with a Tuxedo brand soft-sided gig bag, ideal for transport or storage.
