Bach 36B Tenor Trombone – Vintage 1985, Single Owner, Near Mint.
This Bach 36B is a standout example of the classic .525 medium bore tenor trombone, preserved in remarkable condition by a single original owner. Manufactured in 1985 during one of Bach’s most consistent production eras, this horn features a traditional wrap rotor, standard weight handslide, and an 8" yellow brass bell—all factory-original components, including the lacquer.
The horn has been freshly cleaned and professionally serviced in our shop. The handslide tubes are perfectly straight and offer super-smooth action, making it ideal for players who value ease of play and fast response. The valve section is tight and quiet, and the tuning slides are clean and move freely. Overall, this is one of the cleanest examples of a vintage Bach 36B we’ve seen in years.
Is vintage Bach better than new? Many players say yes—especially when it comes to consistency in build quality and tonal character. This 36B plays effortlessly, with a rich core sound and quick articulation. It’s extremely flexible across all registers, offering a balanced blend of warmth and brilliance, ideal for orchestral excerpts, wind ensemble, or lead tenor parts.
Cosmetically, the horn is in near mint condition. There are no signs of prior damage or repair, and the lacquer has held up beautifully over the decades with only minor wear. It comes with the original hard shell case in very good condition. A mouthpiece is not included.
This instrument has been sold and now resides in the Archive section at The Brass Exchange—but it remains a benchmark example of what a properly maintained Bach 36B should look and play like.
