Yamaha YSL-421G Bass Trombone SN 00230 – Pre-Owned, Custom-Slide Build
This is a pre-owned Yamaha YSL-421G Single Valve Bass Trombone, serial number 00230. It features a 9.5" gold/rose brass bell with a .562 bore and a completely rebuilt custom lightweight handslide. Originally designed as an intermediate-level model, this horn has been fully serviced and thoughtfully upgraded for serious players.
What makes this Yamaha YSL-421G more than just an intermediate bass trombone?
The original handslide was severely damaged, so we rebuilt it using Schilke-Greenhoe inner and outer slide tubes, along with a nickel silver end crook—a major upgrade over the standard brass crook found on new 421G models. The handslide is unlacquered, but the tradeoff is improved resonance, responsiveness, and feel. We also retained the original Yamaha yellow brass bass leadpipe for a balanced tone.
Our shop performed a full service including a chemical bath, rotor service, polished casing, and a precision rotor re-string for flawless action. Although marketed as an intermediate instrument, we believe the playability and upgraded slide make it suitable for students, advancing players, and professionals alike.
The bell section is in excellent shape with no dents, dings, or signs of major repair. The lacquer on the bell and valve section is original and shows very well overall.
