Shires MD+ Mike Davis Artist Model .508 bore tenor trombone. Slightly used, never damaged, and in overall excellent physical and playing condition. Estimated to have been built between 6–10 years ago, this instrument carries a serial number in the 8000 range, indicating production during the highly regarded earlier years of Shires custom brass building.
The bell is in perfect condition and features the classic 7.75" yellow brass flare with deep floral-style Shires engraving, along with the earlier-style Shires counterweight—something experienced Shires players may recognize and prefer. The tuning slide is the special MD+ configuration, and the handslide has modified bracing in the grip area for enhanced control and balance. Handslide construction includes nickel silver outer tubes and a yellow brass end crook, offering just the right mix of warmth and projection.
The only cosmetic blemish is a small area of lacquer loss on the outer slide crook. In this area, some oxidation has darkened the exposed brass. It is not red rot or pitting, and it can be polished out if desired. Most experienced players understand lacquer wear is cosmetic and common with brass instruments. This horn is free of major defects, dents, or trauma.
Why do so many pros choose the MD+ over other .508 bore jazz trombones?
Because it delivers a lively, centered tone that’s agile and expressive—perfect for shows, commercial music, or studio sessions where clarity and flexibility matter most.
Includes a Shires-logo Marco Magi case. One removable leadpipe, mouthpiece not included. A top-tier choice for serious jazz players and collectors alike.
