Shires Custom Series TB47 standard weight .547 large bore tenor trombone handslide. This pre-owned slide is approximately 10 years old and comes from a professional player who used it regularly. It is in excellent structural condition, with no dents or dings on either the outer slide or inner tubes. There has been no previous major repair work, and importantly, there is no plating loss on the inner slide tubes. The slide is also offered with one removable leadpipe included.
Slide action is smooth, fast, and pro-ready—about as good as a Shires slide gets. Cosmetically, it shows signs of regular use, including lacquer loss on the outer tubes, bracing, and cork barrels. Some minor pitting is visible on the cork barrels and in the bracing area. This is typical wear for a horn that has seen 3–6 hours of daily play over a decade. It can be left exactly as-is or professionally refinished, depending on your preference.
The TB47 is designed for compatibility with all Shires large bore valve sections, both current and legacy models. It features yellow brass outer tubes with nickel silver oversleeves, a bass trombone-sized nickel silver end crook, and standard .547 inner tubes.
What’s the benefit of a tenor trombone slide with a bass end crook?
Many players prefer the TB47 in orchestral settings because it produces a broader, fuller tone than a standard tenor crook. While the added width may require more control in the extreme upper register (above high C), the tradeoff is a warm, powerful tenor sound ideal for most performance settings. Perfect for orchestra- big and broad.
This is the same slide model featured on Shires’ TBVNY Vintage New York Artist Model Tenor. A new TB47 retails around $1500 and is often in limited supply. This one is available now and ships immediately.
