Olds Opera 1960's Large Bore Tenor Straight. Has 8.5" Bell Flare, fancy engraving. This a pro jazz players horn, arrived here recently. Nickel Silver Bell, Tuning slide and handslide. Bore size is actually greater than todays standard .547, is actually around .550-.551. These horns play huge and beautiful. But not too much orchestral. Is ideal for a large bore jazz guy. Curtis Fuller Played one, listen to him on Blue Train, John Coltrane. With a horn this size for Jazz, you don't edge out too easily becaue the horn can take what ever you give it. Bill Pierce is another famous trombonist that used this model. His configuration was non-conventional. He put a mouthpiece adapter in and used a small shank mouthpiece. I'm told it was a 12C. It worked great for him. But, it plays fantastic with a large shank mouthpiece. Many Olds players feel that the leadpipes are only suited to Olds Mouthpieces. We disagree, you can make these horns play fantastic with a standard Morse taper- like Bach shank. I'm happy to discuss the topic on a phone call. Regardless, this Opera is in great shape and has not had any major trauma, the bell is fantastic, lacquer is good. Handslide is very true, no issues, but is an old slide with early stage of plating wear, which you can easily overcome with trombontine or similar type lubricant. However, It does feel great with Yamaha. Does not have original case. Includes a protec case. In-stock for immediate delivery.
