King 3B Silversonic made in the late 1950's, H.N. White Era. This is the classic 3B model, one of the Earliest 3B Silversonics that we have seen yet, S/N 360XXX. The early 3B's like this one had longer tuning slides than the later, or even current model. We feel that the upper register pitches are more true and slot easier with the early 3B's. This is the model that J.J. Johnson played on his Pinnacles album in the 1970's. He in fact played on many different horns over his career, 2B/3B combo, Brass 3B, even Yamaha in later years. But, check out his sound on Pinnacles- classic J.J. Sound on a Silversonic 3B.
This one has had full shop service, chemical bath, re lacquered neck pipe. We left the rest of the horn as original lacquer, even though there are surface scratches in the finish and some gold plating loss on the edges of the inner bell. The fact about overhauling and re lacquering vintage horns is that they may look great, but there is no guarantee that it will play the same afterwards. We don't like to take the risk of ruining a great playing vintage horn like a classic 3B Silversonic. There are plenty of sellers on ebay with overhauled instruments that look stunning with new lacquer, but you pay a premium, and there is no guarantee that they play well. This one is original and it plays! By the way, this hand slide is getting a full pro set-up and will be ready next week- 12-11-20. Original Gator Coffin Case in Excellent condition. Mouthpiece not included.
