Conn 78H Elkhart Make 1964. Classic Conn Medium Bore with 8" Yellow Brass Bell, Unsoldered Wire Rim, .522 bore gold brass handslide with nickel endcrook. This horn is all original parts and lacquer. Bell has never been creased or damaged. Considerable lacquer wear on outer bell, spotty in places. The bell seems lighter than other 78's we have seen here. Plays with lots of color and quite easy. Lacquer on handslide is good, especially the typical grip areas, yet all original. Handslide tubes are perfectly straight, plays perfectly despite a small area of plating wear, pictured on two of the photo's. There really isn't much you can do about this. It certainly doesn't ruin the slide, it falls freely and quickly with gravity, but it doesn't feel like a new slide- this is a 50+ year old instrument. But, the thing is, they don't make them anymore. This really is the ideal size all around tenor that can can play in just about any ensemble size. I like it as a medium bore jazz horn. It plays big, but not too big. It is hard to edge on on this horn, no matter how hard or loud you get. Also perfect size for wind ensemble, especially first parts, and some orchestra use where a full .547 with F isn't needed. Has had full shop service, chemical bath and once over, no room for improvement. Oringal case in fair condition, duct tape on the small end where the leather/stiching has come apart, very common on these older cases, still functional. Is not the most beautiful one ever, but certainly does the job and plays great. In-stock.
