Conn 6H Trombone – 1958 Elkhart Era, Satin Lacquer, Original Parts
This vintage Conn 6H trombone, built in 1958 during the renowned Elkhart production era, represents one of the finest examples of the model to pass through The Brass Exchange. The Conn 6H is a small bore trombone known for its classic jazz tone, fast response, and rich character, making it a long-standing favorite among professional players.
Prior to its sale, this instrument had received a complete overhaul and featured a satin lacquer finish with crisp, detailed engraving. The two-tone handslide, original tuning slide, and Conn bracing gave it both visual distinction and historical integrity. All components were factory original, preserving its collectible status.
The slide was exceptional—professionally aligned and completely tension-free. Inner tubes were clean and smooth, showing no plating issues or wear, resulting in performance that rivaled modern high-end instruments. It played with remarkable speed and control, perfect for lead or solo jazz work.
Sonically, the horn delivered everything expected from a Conn 6H: clarity, flexibility, and that signature bite and presence that made it a staple among jazz trombonists. With its tonal precision and natural articulation, it was equally suited for studio work and live performance.
This instrument now resides in our Archive of Sold Instruments as a strong example of what a properly serviced, professionally maintained Conn 6H should be. Its enduring reputation among jazz players and collectors alike is well deserved.
