Conn 44H Vocabell Small Bore Tenor. Made in the 1930's, Elkhart, IN S/N 295XXX. All original parts and silver plating. Has gorgeous art deco engraving, including an image of Pan the Piper, sort of an evil looking character from Greek Mythology. Has not been damaged or had major repairs as many of the older horns have. The handslide is good, and the inner slide tubes are straight, without chrome plating defect. The only minor issue is that the slide lock is missing. Someone took it off along the way. We have searched for a replacement, but so far no luck. If you can like without a slide lock it would be fine, maybe a velcro or leather strap would do the job. Would be a great dixie, lead, or trad jazz horn. The rimless bell is more weighty than other vintage conn models. There is also more weight in the bell bracing, which translates into more energy out front. Is the type of horn that you can push and keep pushing without backing up, sound like a freight train if you want it too. We have always been partial to this model, in fact, the Brass Exchange logo is based upon an abstraction of this model. Case not included.
