Bach

Bach 36B SN 40934 Made around 1979-1980.  Is in unlacquered brass.  Just had full shop service here including chemical bath.  Appears to have slightly higher copper content in bell but not full on gold brass.  It could be that the color is a result of our chemical dip. I am pretty sure that it is yellow brass.  I played it in lesson teaching here and like it.  The grip width when you hold it seems wider, but not much.  It is a slightly different slide than the other 36/36B horns that we have seen here.  The big difference is no nickel oversleeves at the top of the slide. But, the outer tubes aren't like the ones when standard slides have the sleeves removed to make them light weight.  It was definitely made this way.  You have to be ok with unlacquered to enjoy this instrument. It's going to tarnish in time.  The only minor defect that I noticed was smooth plating wear on the inner tubes.  It's just the way it is on this horn, but easy to overcome because it plays so proper.  Would have been a major upgrade for me when I was an 8th grader.  No hesitation to recommend this horn for any advancing player wanting to play on something pro level.  Can use any small shank mouthpiece but Bach 6/12 or 5G would be the best choices to make it fully resonate.
